Knee and ankle update

Not sure if you all know about my knee problems are not. I have had some knee swelling and calf pain for the past month or so, but I was still able to bike and run. I just thought it was a strain. I was more frustrated than concerned. The day after Teagin was born, I put some shorts on and looked down at my ankle and noticed it looked like Colby's. I couldn't even see my ankle bone. I also had cankles. I was a little concerned, but was more focused on Teagin. When we came home on Monday, the swelling was still there and I think a little worse. By Tuesday I noticed some bruising on the inside of my ankle (See photos). That started to concern me. I made a doctors appointment the next hour.

I explained to the doctor what was going on, and she thought it was either a ruptured Bakers cyst or a blood clot. The Bakers cyst was nothing to worry about, but the blood clot was. So she had me get a ultrasound. The ultrasound did not show either. There was some fluid in my knee and my calf.

I have another doctors appointment on Monday with the rheumotologist. Maybe he can figure out what is going on. I don't think it is arthritis related. I think I tore or strained something in my knee or calf. If so, I go see a Sports Medicine Doc.

I also have my ECHO on Wednesday. God, I sound like I'm 80 years old. Hopefully everything checks out, but if not I may not beable to do the 70.3. I just want to give you guys a heads up, so you all know what is going on are not pissed if I can't race in June.

Tune up race before Boise

I second Andy's findings of the new heat wave in South Florida. The humidity makes you feel like you just started your training program. IT SUCKS! At least Boise won't be crazy hot. Let's just hope that it warms up a little bit. Last I checked, it's been in the 30's each morning. It's going to be one coooooold swim!

We all knew Baby Teagin was on her way, but now that she's here, this trip is going to be even more great. It's a good age for her to not understand that her daddy got his ass kicked. One day her Uncle Nick can explain to her, but until then we will just make her feel like everyone is a 'winner,' daddy included.

This weekend is the Florida International Triathlon at Siesta Key. The final race before Boise. It should be a lot of fun, and a great race to fine tune fueling and hydrating. Which has always been a challenge for me. Of course living on the Sun, (AKA, Florida) doens't make it easy. Have I mentioned it's starting to get hot here? My fat ass doesn't do well in the humidity.

Nicole and I are excited to see everyone. It's great to get the family together revolving around health and fitness. Get ready to get inspired. These events will motivate you and humble you at the same time. And, what a great environment for Kyler and Kaylei (Teagin too but don't think she will be doing much but pooping and eating) to be around. Let's enjoy this time together and not let the tradition die. Stay focused and get ready, cause our swim wave is not far off!

Noel: Congrats! Now, pass Baby T off to Colby and get on it! What are you really good for right now anyway? Let's be honest. Of course always do what Colby says though. Oh yeah, and RECOVER that knee!!

Alan: Get your ass out of the RV and get on it! Great job at Elma by the way.

Andy: Put the laptop down and the hookers down. They can wait.

(I guess you guys could tell me to get my ass off my iPad and start training.)

Can't wait to see you guys. I may get my ass kicked but as long as I am prepared and cross the finish line with my brothers, I am happy.

Take care.

Nick

Little Update

Been a while since my last post so thought I would give you a little update. The heat has arrived in South Florida and training outside has become a little unpleasant. I must admit that I have been slacking a little lately spending more time on work trying to get the new venture and programs ready for launch. No long races lately, but have had some success in a couple sprints! At the Nautica South Beach Tri I took 2nd in the Clydesdale and 7th in my age group. At Tri-Miami last weekend I not only took 1st in the Clydesdales but also won the 30-34 age group! That was also good enough for 17th overall! I was surprised by my performance especially since I only got about an hour sleep the night before the race. Nicole I'm sorry to say you won't be able to give me anymore shit about racing in Clydesdale because I don't weigh enough for that category anymore. So I will retire from the Clydesdale ranks on top!

No more races till Boise though which is right around the frickin corner! It's great to win a sprint but that doesn't mean shit when you're talking about 1.2 miles swim, 56-mile bike, and half-marathon! Here are a couple recent pics from the races.
